September was a Success!

This September, Alpha Home joined with community partners throughout San Antonio and Texas to raise awareness about addiction, and more importantly, the power of recovery.  For the first time, Alpha Home hosted a month-long celebration. We enjoyed many partnerships with businesses who helped support Alpha Home’s mission in a new ways including, The Pearl, The Bottling Department, Tenko Ramen, Maybelle’s, Good Kind, Bud’s Rotisserie, Fletcher’s Hamburgers, The Bar at the Food Hall, Bakery Lorraine, Mobile Om, Panda Express, JoyRide and Pinot’s Palette–Alamo Heights.

We truly feel blessed for these new friendships from the businesses, but also from new friends in the community.  Addiction is a funny issue, in that so much shame and judgment surrounds it.  We know when people have the opportunity to ask for and receive help without judgment, they have a better shot at living a sober life.

Thank you San Antonio for helping us raise awareness on an issue that impacts so many.  Together, we can make our community more healthy and HAPPY!

Bakery Lorraine Brings out the PB&J

On September 22, our friends at Bakery Lorraine will be selling their PB&J macarons, especially for Alpha Home!  When you visit any of the BL locations AND Maybelle’s at the Pearl, your purchase of some peanut butter jelly time, will benefit Alpha Home big time!

Don’t be shy!  Buy a box and share with a friend.  You can add a little sweetness to your life and help us lighten up someone else’s.  Thank you for supporting Alpha Home during National Recovery Month!

Visit www.bakerylorraine.com for all their locations.

FASD Awareness Month

September is a busy month!  We’ve been celebrating recovery all month, but we want to be sure our community knows about other important causes during September.  Our team is also representing awareness in the community for FASD Awareness Month – also known as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.  The Family First recently went blue to promote awareness with staff and  in-patient and out-patient clients.

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) are a group of conditions that can occur in a person whose mother drank alcohol during pregnancy. These effects can include physical problems and problems with behavior and learning. Often, a person with an FASD has a mix of these problems.*

Our Family First team works diligently with clients in our residential program for intervention and awareness while they are beginning the recovery process.  For our male and female clients in outpatient services, the Family First team brings awareness to help prevent FASD, but also to be pro-active if someone’s child has been diagnosed and to help prevent future pregnancies from suffering the same outcome.  The Family First team provides parenting classes for both in-patient and outpatient clients of Alpha Home.

Of all the addictions, alcohol use is the most unforgiving on the fetal development with lifelong effects.  If you are a partner organization, our Family First team would be happy to come out and provide a session on prevention and awareness.  As a community, we can end FASD.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction and is pregnant, please contact Alpha Home urgently at (210) 735-3822.  We can help you!

National Recovery Month

Save the Date for National Recovery Month

Each September, those in recovery and the professionals who support them, come together for National Recovery Month.  The month is designated to honor the path from addiction to recovery so many have taken.  And the month is also a way to affirm that, with the right supports, anyone can overcome addiction.

We hope you’ll join us this September as we partner in the community to bring awareness and tell the story of what we do.

Be sure to follow us on social media and check out our events page to follow all events as they are scheduled.  We are proud of the partnerships we have forged and know that, as a community, we can overcome the stigma associated with recovery.  Everyone deserves a second chance.

Stay Connected via social media.
