We surpassed our Big Give goal!!

Our Alpha Home supporters are amazing! You all are our Big Give Superheroes!

We smashed our The Big Give SA $40,000 goal yesterday!

Thanks to a matching donation from an anonymous donor, Big Give donations counted double. The donations raised will go toward the purchase of a much needed passenger van for our clients. The additional funds raised will help women and men achieve long term recovery.

Thank you on behalf of the staff, board members and clients of Alpha Home! #BigGive2017

Thank you, Alpha Home volunteers!

Meet some of the volunteers that give time to help Alpha Home! Last year, a total of 7,810 volunteer hours were logged at Alpha Home. Thank you to these individuals and groups that truly make a difference in the lives of our clients and our community.

Together, we are committed to offer a pathway of help, hope, and healing through spiritually based drug and alcohol treatment and support.

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Month!

This week, Alpha Home received a $20,000 gift designated by David Hennessee from the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation, a fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation.  Alpha Home is grateful for the gift and will be using the donation for general operating expenses.

About San Antonio Area Foundation:

The Area Foundation helps donors achieve their charitable goals and serves as a collaborative leader, investing in the future of our community by bringing people together to address key community issues. The Area Foundation manages more than 500 charitable funds and nearly $901 million in assets. Since 1964, more than $305 million for scholarships and grants have been awarded to nonprofits that educate youth, preserve the environment, protect animals, fund research and provide a variety of services that enhance the quality of life in our region.

Alpha Home celebrates renaming of wellness center to honor its founder

On Nov. 11th, Alpha Home celebrated the renaming of its Wellness Center to honor its founder, Dr. Richard P. Usatine.

The Wellness Center at Alpha Home was founded in 2005 by Dr. Usatine, a Professor of Family and Community Medicine at UT Health Science Center (UTHSCSA), working in collaboration with a group of altruistic medical students.

The center fills a gap in the health care of Alpha Home Clients and also allows medical students and other health science students to reach out to provide compassionate services, supervised by faculty doctors, while learning about substance use and recovery.

“Dr. Usatine’s Wellness Center saves our community $245,000 a year in emergency room visits alone,” said Angela White, Alpha Home’s Chief Executive Officer. “The impact to the overall health of our female clients is immeasurable, for many it is the first time for a well woman check. These services extend the length of stay in treatment which is essential for long term recovery. We are truly grateful for Dr. Usatine.”

Within the Wellness Center, the faculty and students provide five different clinical services, covering primary care, gynecology, physical therapy, psychiatry and dental.

Grant update

We are so excited to let our supporters know about two recent grants Alpha Home received. The Charity Ball Association and the Kronsosky Charitable Foundation are helping us make a difference in the lives of our clients.
We are so appreciative of their support they give to us — and the support they each give to our community. Read more about how the grants will make a difference here at Alpha Home.
Charity Ball Association
Thanks to Charity Ball Association’s recent  $9,164.23 grant award, Alpha Home will have two new children’s playgrounds and a redesigned indoor play room. These improvements will ensure that children will have a safe and fun place to play during their visits here at Alpha Home. Thank you Charity Ball Association for your commitment to help the children of our clients.
Kronosky Charitable Foundation
Kronosky Charitable Foundation recently awarded $75,000 to Alpha Home! This operations grant will be used throughout the year to support our residential and outpatient treatment programs that help individuals with substance use disorder. Thank you Kronkosky Charitable Foundation for your commitment to improve the quality of life for our clients.
