Henderson was a first round draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys and an All-Pro Bowl linebacker. His seven year career as a top NFL player ended because of alcohol abuse and drug addiction. He lost his family, friends, and his career.
Known as one of the most flamboyant players of his time even casual football fans knew of “Hollywood”. But when Coach Tom Landry fired him from the Dallas Cowboys his life started to spiral out of control. In the midst of his addiction Henderson wrote a brutally honest account of career in the NFL was first recorded in his book Out of Control – Confessions of an NFL Casualty.
In 1983 Henderson turned his life around and started to down the path of recovery. After a prison sentence and residential treatment he found freedom from addiction.
Henderson wrote a second book called In Control – The Rebirth of an NFL Legend and has traveled the country sharing hope through his experiences. The message he shares in his book helps anyone to identify challenges, find solutions, and produce results leading to a meaningful life. He has also created alcohol and drug education films that are inspiring, uplifting and great resource for anyone struggling with addiction. Hollywood’s life will motivate anyone to look for hope and reach for healing confident in the possibilities of a life lived on purpose.
